Head of Engineering & Innovation · AIME

Amanullah Soomro.

Senior software engineer at heart, engineering leader who still loves to ship. I build high-performing teams and the high-performance products they're proud of.

01 / About

The person behind the products.

I'm Aman: an engineer who ended up leading engineers, and never stopped being one. At AIME I set technical direction across the product portfolio, and lead a 30+ strong engineering team I grew from five. Most days you'll still find me in the codebase.

I build things from zero: new products for the company, platforms for clients, and a deep-tech venture of my own. My happy place is the full loop: architecture, code, releases, documentation, and the team that carries it forward.

Right now that mostly means intelligent systems: agents, developer tooling and retrieval pipelines in production. Before that it was payments, mobile and multi-tenant platforms. The stack changes; the standard doesn't.

I started in Pakistan, freelancing through a computer science degree, and Glasgow has been home since 2021: an MSc at Strathclyde, a Level 7 leadership programme, and a seat at the board table before thirty. Off the clock: cricket and badminton, the Highlands on foot, and music everywhere in between.

Innovation

01

AIME Platform

Owner of the agentic core

Agent systemsAnthropic · ClaudeWebContainersNext.js

Challenge

AIME's flagship promise: an idea in, a shipped product out. Scope, personas, design, code and deployment in one loop, with an intelligent agent doing the building, live in the browser.

Built

The agentic core: multi-agent orchestration, an in-browser build runtime, design-to-code, and deployment automation. The parts that make it more than a code generator.

Outcome

The product at the centre of AIME's offer, in production with its clients.

02

edge · Coding Agent

Architect · built from zero

TypeScriptLLM agentsMCPtree-sitter

Challenge

Off-the-shelf coding agents don't know your architecture, your standards or your codebase. AIME needed its own.

Built

AIME's own coding agent for the terminal: the agent loop and its tooling, code-intelligence engines that give it deep knowledge of a codebase, and the CI, releases and product site around it.

Outcome

Versioned, released and adopted by the engineering team, with onboarding docs so it outlives its author.

03

Virtual Colleagues · Digital Coworkers

First commit to production

LLM agentsMCP serversHuman-in-the-loopAWS · Docker

Challenge

What if hiring help meant deploying it? Digital coworkers with actual jobs, working real tools, with a human approving the sensitive moves.

Built

The whole platform, end to end: a build-a-colleague canvas, role-based agent runtimes, custom tool servers for the work each role does, a real-time chat layer, and human-in-the-loop approvals.

Outcome

In production for the AIME team: digital colleagues carrying real workloads, with humans keeping the final say.

04

WaveCAD · Photonic Chip Design

Personal venture · built end to end

Python · FastAPIRust · WASMJAXRAG

Challenge

Designing photonic chips takes PhD tooling and years of practice. Could an intelligent CAD tool put real photonics in the browser: canvas, physics and fabrication-ready output?

Built

Every line of it: a canvas editor with port-aware waveguide routing, a Python engine with real optics behind it, differentiable circuit simulation, a Rust-to-WebAssembly geometry core, and a physics-aware design assistant grounded in photonics documentation. The physics honed with a friend deep in a photonics PhD.

Outcome

A working deep-tech product spanning TypeScript, Python and Rust, with investor materials to match. Built on nights and weekends.

Shipped for clients

05

Merchant Payments App

Led the mobile stream · payments and hardware surface

PaymentsStripe TerminalReact NativeTap to Pay

Challenge

Merchants wanted to take card payments without buying and maintaining dedicated terminal hardware.

Built

Card acceptance from proof of concept to production: Stripe Terminal through a Bluetooth reader, and Tap to Pay on iPhone and Android. Around it, the device integrations, the app's security layer and the release process.

Outcome

Live on the UK App Store, taking real card payments for real businesses.

06

Learning Pathways Platform

Frontend end to end · pathways module author in the Java backend

Java · Spring BootNext.jsTypeScriptMulti-tenancy

Challenge

A learning platform needed structured pathways: versioned, rule-driven training journeys assigned across organisations, sites and roles, without one organisation ever seeing another's data.

Built

The frontend, end to end: creation wizard, version management and dashboards. And the pathways module inside the client's Java Spring Boot backend: domain model, services, versioning and multi-tenant isolation.

Outcome

A complete capability delivered end to end by one engineer, domain model to wizard, hardened for multi-tenancy.

07

Location-Based Marketing SDK

Primary author, Android and iOS SDKs · docs and release infra

Kotlin · AndroidSwift · iOSGeofencingFirebase

Challenge

Brands want to reach people in the physical world: a notification as you walk into the stadium, not an email the day after. That takes reliable geofencing running inside other companies' apps.

Built

Geofencing SDKs for Android and iOS, in Kotlin and Swift: entry, exit and dwell detection, background refresh, push routing and rich video and modal notifications. Around them: developer documentation for both platforms, test automation with simulated GPS routes, and the public release channels.

Outcome

Versioned releases on Maven, embedded in partner apps, live across dev, staging and production.

04 / Process

Shipping is a process, not an event.

Every line here has a paper trail, and each one exists because of what it buys.

  1. 01Implementation plans written before the first commitScope surprises die on paper, not in production
  2. 02Developer documentation shipped as a productIntegrations succeed without a support thread
  3. 03Verification reports, corrected in writing when wrongThe team trusts the record, not memories
  4. 04Client feedback triaged into plans, not pilesClients see movement in days, not quarters
  5. 05Dedicated test rigs: host apps, scripted tests, simulated routesReleases prove themselves before users do
  6. 06Versioned releases, written PRs, review before mergeNothing ships by accident, and rollbacks stay boring

06 / Testimonials

Don't take my word for it.

One of the most capable engineering leaders I've encountered. Aman has an exceptional ability to find intelligent, innovative solutions to high-value, complex R&D challenges. A rare combination of technical brilliance, emotional intelligence and operational maturity: AIME is stronger because of his leadership.
Andreas PourosFounder & CEO, AIME
He always looks beyond the code and makes sure every technical decision supports the business goals. He isn't afraid to challenge architectural decisions if he believes there's a better approach, even in discussions with clients or senior management.

07 / The difference

Why me, of all people?

Both altitudes, one person

Board-level strategy in the morning, a pull request in the afternoon. I never stopped shipping, so my decisions stay honest about what they cost to build.

Founder reflexes, employee reliability

I start things: internal products, client platforms, a deep-tech venture of my own. From first commit to production, without being asked twice.

Agentic before the playbooks

Agent systems, MCP tooling and retrieval pipelines running in real products for real users, built before the playbooks existed.

Trusted in every direction

The CEO, the engineers who report to me, and the clients we serve say the same things in writing. Alignment like that is earned.
